Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin told “Fox News Sunday” that Democrats will have “a lot of explaining to do” if they bring a lawsuit to stop President Donald Trump’s executive orders on coronavirus relief.

After lawmakers on both sides of the aisle failed to reach a deal on a fourth coronavirus stimulus package, Trump responded by signing four executive orders Saturday. These included a payroll tax cut holiday through the end of the year, a prohibition on evictions, student loan relief, and $400 per week for unemployed workers.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi echoed Republican Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse in calling Trump’s orders “unconstitutional slop” and has suggested Democrats could sue to stop them.

“What makes you think that spending over $100 billion that Congress has not appropriated for these specific purposes is legal, and what happens if there’s a court suit and all of the actions that the president took yesterday are blocked by a federal court?” asked Fox News anchor Chris Wallace.

“Let me just say we’ve cleared with the office of legal counsel all these actions before they went to the president,” Mnuchin said. “The president knew unemployment insurance was ending. He said, ‘let’s continue with $400.’ By the way, the 25% from the states, they can either take that out of the money we’ve already given them for the president can waive that. We’ve been told by the states they can get this up and running immediately.”

The Treasury secretary then seemed to dare Democrats to challenge the administration in court, suggesting that such a move would invite a PR disaster.

“And I would say if the Democrats want to challenge us in court and hold up unemployment benefits to those hard-working Americans that are out of a job because of COVID, they’re going to have a lot of explaining to do,” he said.

Mnuchin defended the $400 as significantly higher than the “$25 top-up” provided during the Great Recession under President Obama.

Chris Hayes argued that the Electoral College “would be unconstitutional” if it “wasn’t specifically in the Constitution.”

The MSNBC host made the comment during a lecture-style presentation knocking the system on Friday night’s “All In with Chris Hayes.”

“But I think there is actually a deeper philosophical thing happening, which is the question of what exactly American democracy is for,” Hayes said. “And the weirdest thing about the Electoral College is the fact that if it wasn’t specifically in the Constitution for the presidency, it would be unconstitutional.”

The MSNBC host based his opinion off the Supreme Court having developed “a jurisprudence of one person, one vote,” which means “each individual vote has to carry roughly the same amount of weight as each other individual vote.”

“There are all sorts of crazy representational systems that were created that would not give one person one vote and would disenfranchise certain minorities,” said Hayes, pointing out efforts across the South and other places to stymie minority representation which were overturned by the high court.

“The basic principle one person, one vote, the candidate the most votes wins, those are the basic principles that are applied everywhere in the United States, every single election from dog catcher to state senator to governor up to two institutions, the two most powerful,” said Hayes, referring to the United States Senate, which allocates two senators per state regardless of that state’s population, and the presidency.

Here’s a sampling of Twitter reaction to Hayes’ comments:

Not only is @chrislhayes a blithering idiot, he also seems to be arguing for ethno-centric political representation.

A Hialeah, Fla. Taco Bell employee was reportedly fired on Friday after refusing to serve an English-speaking customer two days before.

A video of the Spanish-speaking employee’s interaction with a customer who tried to place her order in English Wednesday evening quickly went viral on social media.

“Nobody here speaks English? Nobody in the back speaks English? So you can’t take my order,” customer Alexandria Montgomery said.

After getting nowhere trying to place her order, Montgomery tried to ask for a manager.

“She is in her house sleeping,” the employee — who the customer says identified herself as Luisa — said dismissively in Spanish, according to the Miami Herald.

“Honey, I have a car behind you,” she said before she closed the window.

“Can you move, please? I have an order behind you,” she said. “There is no one who speaks English. This is Hialeah, I’m sorry.” When Montgomery didn’t move her vehicle right away, the employee threatened to call police.

“Call the police! I didn’t do nothing! I’m trying to order food!” said the customer.

“It’s not my problem. It’s Hialeah,” the employee responded in Spanish.

“That doesn’t mean nothing!” Montgomery told the employee. “‘Cuz this is Hialeah.’ This is America. Y’all don’t take over the whole population.”

Hialeah is a 94 percent Latino community located north of Miami’s airport, according to Fox News. Approximately 89 percent of its residents speak Spanish.

“I’m trying to order and she’s telling me I can’t order because she doesn’t speak English. Who’s wrong?” Montgomery said before eventually leaving without being served.

“This incident happened Wednesday night around 10:30 p.m.,” she told El Nuevo Herald. “I contacted the manager and after explaining to her what happened all she did was apologize and say ‘thank you,’ and the call was disconnected.”

Taco Bell Corp. released two statements regarding the incident to El Nuevo Herald. One said that “this does not meet our customer service expectations,” adding that the company has “worked quickly to resolve with the customer to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”

Another statement later confirmed: “This individual no longer works for the brand.”

Montgomery, who reportedly called the incident “racist” in a Facebook post, told NBC 6 the company offered her a $100 gift card.

“A gift card is not gonna just solve the problem, it’s not gonna give me justice,” Montgomery said. “Don’t try to like sweep it under the rug.”

“I understand everyone in Miami doesn’t speak English, and that’s fine, but if she was willing to work with me, I think the outcome would’ve been different,” she told NBC 6.

“Luisa isn’t even her real name lol. She was the general manager on that time,” Montgomery wrote on Facebook, according to NBC 6.

Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren contended that President Donald Trump “may not even be a free person” by the 2020 election.

The Massachusetts presidential candidate made the comments on Sunday during her first full day campaign stop in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, drawing cheers from the audience in attendance.

“One of the things we’re gonna have to decide about how campaigns go forward is about what Donald Trump does every day,” Warren told the crowd. “Every day, there is a racist tweet, a hateful tweet, something really dark and ugly. And what are we as candidates, as activists, as the press, going to do about that? Are we going to chase after those every day? Are we going to let him use those to divide us?”

“You know, here’s what bothers me,” she said. “By the time we get to 2020, Donald Trump may not even be president. In fact, he may not even be a free person.”

“Here’s how I see it,” Warren said after the crowd finished their applause. “Donald Trump is not the only problem we’ve got. Yeah. Donald Trump is the symptom of a badly broken system.”

Asked about her comments later, Warren told reporters: “Come on, how many investigations are there now, into him? It’s no longer just the Mueller investigation … These are serious investigations.”

The Trump campaign responded to Warren’s Saturday presidential campaign announcement with a statement of its own via campaign manager Brad Parscale: “Elizabeth Warren has already been exposed as a fraud by the Native Americans she impersonated and disrespected to advance her professional career, and the people of Massachusetts she deceived to get elected. The American people will reject her dishonest campaign and socialist ideas like the Green New Deal, that will raise taxes, kill jobs and crush America’s middle-class.”

President Donald Trump’s campaign is set to spring for a giant anti-socialism banner along with a plane to fly it over Houston, just before Thursday night’s Democratic debate.

The banner and flight will reportedly cost around $7,500 and it will fly from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., just an hour before the start of the debate.

The banner will read, “Socialism Will Kill Houston’s Economy” above a plea to “Vote Trump 2020,” according to a rendition provided to ABC News by the Trump campaign.

“Every single Democrat candidate has job killing, economy crushing policies that won’t work for America. Team Trump is here to remind them and let everyone in Houston know what a complete disaster Democrats are for America,” deputy communications director Erin Perrine told the network in a Wednesday statement.

Trump and Republicans have made a practice of pointing out Democrats’ socialistic policy positions, and evidence suggests it could be an effective tactic. While 50 percent of Americans view socialism in a negative light, only 18 percent of all Americans say they view socialism positively, according to a Wall Street Journal poll conducted in May.

The ad campaign will also include full-page print ads directed at Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, and Julian Castro, ABC reported.
